Toshiba presents 7.68TB SSD drive
8/8/2016, Milan Šurkala
Toshiba just presented enterprise SSD drive with one of the largest capacities. Its new ZD6300 provides 7.68 terabytes for data. Such a capacity is comparable to the highest capacities of ordinary hard drives.
Toshba company extends its portfolio of SSD drives with the new ZD6300 drive that provides capacity of 7.68 TB. It can be easily compared with hard drives that have achieved slightly higher capacity of 10 TB and Seagate promises 12TB drives Q3/16. Although 7.68 TB is a lot of space for a SSD drive, it is not the record value for SSD technology. SSD with the largest capacity is made by Samsung. It is called PM1633a and has twice as large capacity, 15.36 TB.
Nevertheless, Toshiba is still one of the manufacturers with largest SSD drives on the market. The new Z6300 drive uses the standard 2.5-inch form factor. It uses PCI-Express 3.0 and NVMe interfaces. This SSD drive is aimed for enterprise market but we still do not know the official price, although you can find the values about $12,000 on the internet. The mean time between failure (MTBF) of these new drives is 2 million hours. More details were not revealed.
